You may recall that a few years ago, 3-4 years, the Spanish congregation in Indianapolis suffered a major loss with a fire in their sanctuary. The insurance had been canceled by the church due to their finding a cheaper coverage with another company. However, before the new policy became effective, the building was gutted by a fire. They have been meeting in their fellowship hall ever since and doing work as they could on their building.
The Presbyter’s and I want to give the region an opportunity to respond to our sister congregation in order to help them on their journey of completing the sanctuary remodel project. Consequently, the Presbyter’s have declared Sunday, February 8, 2015 as To Indy With Love Sunday. We are asking every local congregation in the Great Lakes to receive on this date a home mission offering for the Spanish church in Indy. As you know, the second Sunday of the month is typically our mission emphasis Sunday. We are asking that your church’s mission offering in February be directed toward our church family in Indianapolis. The funds should be sent to the Regional Treasury and will then be distributed for building supplies, etc.
Additionally, we are working on coordinating a work detail from volunteers across the region in order to assist our Hispanic brethren with the necessary repairs. The date for the work event has not yet been finalized. It will, however, be a great time of working and fellowshipping together. As well, our Spanish church will be cooking some genuine Hispanic dishes to feed our work crews during the event.
Again, I will get you more information as the details are finalized. At this point, we simply want each pastor to boost a special offering of love to our family in Indy. Please have your treasurer send the offering to Becky Dudding, marked To Indy With Love.
